FROM THE ARCHIVE
Different tools.
The same independent spirit.
Digital spaces, personal photographs and his own words extend our view of Michael Plötz. This selection preserves traces of his historical online studio and reveals connections between the different parts of his work.
01 · DIGITAL WORKS
Spaces made with a computer.
Spheres, floating forms, artificial light and a horizon with no fixed location. In his computer graphics, Michael Plötz continued exploring imagined spaces through digital means.
Expanses without certainty
Landscapes between horizons, suspension and impossible scales.
An Island in the Indefinite
Computer graphic · editorial title · undated
An island gives the eye a foothold, yet everything around it begins to float. Water, spheres and narrow supports form a space without a reliable scale. The spatial invention of his painting meets the possibilities of the computer.
The Weight of Embers
Computer graphic · editorial title · undated
A dark sphere rises above sharply edged terrain. Its fractured glow stands against the cool expanse of the sky. What appears to be a distant world acquires an almost physical closeness through the contrast between surface and light.
Four Quiet Orbits
Computer graphic · editorial title · undated
Four spheres keep their distance, yet seem to follow a shared rhythm. A bright horizon divides the image into depth and reflection. A simple repetition is enough to suggest a resonance suspended between stillness and anticipation.
A Passage Without a Wall
Computer graphic · editorial title · undated
The ring opens a view, although it seems to enclose nothing. Behind it, grey planes fold into a landscape that resists familiar perspective. The opening becomes a question about what lies before the image and what might lie beyond it.
Seed of Another World
Computer graphic · editorial title · undated
A reclining human figure occupies the foreground, while a golden, ribbed form rises beyond it. The body gives the artificial landscape a scale that the oversized seed immediately unsettles. Observation and invention meet in a space that has the quality of a daydream.
A presence made of light
Bodies, reflections and the question of closeness.
Closeness in Transparent Matter
Computer graphic · editorial title · undated
A glass-like enclosure surrounds two figures in a vast blue setting. A quiet encounter emerges between the transparent vessel and the physical presence within it. As in Michael’s painted spaces, the world these figures inhabit and the position of its boundaries remain open questions.
A Counterpart in Gold
Computer graphic · editorial title · undated
Golden figures and dark doubles appear on a reflective surface. Closeness emerges less through gesture than through repetition and distance. The virtual space turns the figure into a shifting relationship between body, light and reflection.
Colour in transformation
Organic movements meet the language of digital construction.
The Memory of Matter
Computer graphic · editorial title · undated
Rust-coloured planes surround a row of glowing spheres. Sloping surfaces, cracks and shadows make the digital appear like weathered matter. The construction remains visible, while its surface suggests a passage of time this space has never experienced.
Resonance in the Dark
Computer graphic · editorial title · undated
Red bands pass through a dark space and end in small yellow lights. Fine lines hold their soft movements in tension. The image suggests an impulse that continues, branches out and begins to glow at its edges.
Where Colour Takes Root
Computer graphic · editorial title · undated
Green branches between red and violet centres. Points and curves follow one another so closely that surface and organic form become difficult to separate. The sense of growth found in many of his painted worlds becomes a digital mesh of colour.
The Secret Script of Green
Computer graphic · editorial title · undated
Dark signs push through a luminous green structure. Some resemble small components, others mobile organisms. The eye keeps travelling between them: a dense field in which order and transformation seem to speak the same language.
A Machine for Dreaming
Computer graphic · editorial title · undated
Blue and violet channels entwine in a red field. The form recalls a circuit while resisting any technical function. A tool for calculation becomes a means of creating an image that follows a logic of its own.
The poetic titles and readings are contemporary editorial interpretations, not recorded artist titles or quotations.
02 · PERSONAL PHOTOGRAPHS
Michael and Daniel.
Two photographs show Michael Plötz with his son Daniel. They offer a personal context alongside the photographic works.
The photographer and precise dates have not been recorded.
03 · WORDS
Finding a path
of one’s own.
„Give me the chance
M.P. · From an undated poem · translated from the German
to be myself“
Here, the desire for independence takes shape in words. The poem is signed with the initials M.P., which Michael also used for his name.
